1. There is a castle that costs less than an apartment in New York City! That’s right. Gothamist compared a four bedroom townhouse in Greenwich Village to a seven-bedroom and seven-bathroom castle in Vienne, France. It may be a surprise to know that the castle is in fact around two million dollars cheaper, priced at $2,609,939 (this includes the courtyard, farmhouse, and horse stables.) The townhouse? About $5,495,000. There is not much room for a dining table either.

2. There are over 250 films that are shot in New York City each year. According to Time Out magazine, many movies are filmed in this infamous city because its atmosphere provides a great place for a story line. It is a city people migrate to from other countries in search of freedom and job opportunities. Among some of the most popular films that have taken place in the Big Apple are Hamlet (2000), King Kong (1976), and The Amazing Spider-Man (2012).

3. Chinatown, located in Manhattan, has the largest population of Chinese people in the entire Western world. Chinatown has been the primary location of Chinese immigration since the early 1700’s. It is now a popular tourist site and has many attractions, including “Noodletown,” seafood restaurants and massage services. Every year from August 7th through the 8th, Chinatown hosts their infamous Boat Festival. The number of local dance groups and bands that perform for the multicultural audience add up to around one thousand people. Of course, Chinatown also has a grand street fair for the Chinese New Year festival, with lion and dragon dancers along with martial arts demonstrations.

4. All the musicians that play near the subways have to audition before they are allowed to perform. Grabbing some space near New York’s subway systems to play music for passengers is an initial opportunity for many beginning musicians in the city. This is often what launches many of their careers. However, what some may not realize is that obtaining an area here on the subway system requires an audition. The Metropolitan Transit Authority has been heading this process for over twenty five years. Making the cut in front of the 31 judges can really make a difference in the potential artist’s profession, which is why the judges only offer 20 spots annually, according to the Am-NY magazine.
