Let a Robot Park Your Car

By: Jasmine King

Recent advancements in technology have allowed a German airport to help travelers save time. This form of machinery is a valet parking service, but one that is controlled by robots. This tech-savvy parking utensil is known as RAY.

RAY lifts the cars and takes them to one of 249 assigned spots, using sensors to stay aware of its surroundings. There is a touch screen system like a kiosk where the car owner can verify that the car is empty and turned off. Along with this system is an app for monitoring the car in the parking garage.

This machinery can park 60 percent more cars than humans, can fit more cars into smaller spaces and is energy efficient. Although it saves time, it may be a little pricey to some, as it costs about 40 dollars a day.

If this advancement came into the United States, it could be especially effective at the Charlotte-Douglas Airport, which is said to be the eleventh busiest airport in America. With this parking system, the airport could become more organized and could reduce traffic flow. People who have arrived at the airport late won’t have to suffer long wait times in carpool.
