Let’s Compromise on Senior Pranks

By: Victoria Smurr

At the end of every school year, the senior class likes to plan its last “hoorah” of high school. Year after year, seniors look forward to this shining moment. However, once the time comes around, it can be hard for students to come up with a safe and legal prank. It is especially difficult to come up with a prank because there is conflict between students and school officials. Students wish to plan and execute their pranks in secrecy to preserve the sole purpose of a prank.

There is a way to keep senior prank-planning private. A way to make sure it is kept secret is to put it in the hands of the senior class council, and if administrators were to compile a list of guidelines and rules, it would make planning the prank a lot easier. The school officials would have a list of rules to give to the council, and then they would convey those rules to the rest of the senior class. The seniors could submit ideas to the class council and they would determine whether or not it was a good and safe idea. Ultimately, the prank choice would be decided by the class council. Getting together to put the prank together would be easier to organize with a specific set of rules. That would keep the prank in good fun and within safe and legal boundaries.

With a list of rules and guidelines, the seniors could construct a prank that is within the set boundaries, while still keeping it a secret from administration. Putting the senior council in charge is a good compromise instead of having to tell the prank to school officials. If this plan were adopted, the seniors would be much happier and would have a lot more fun planning and executing a prank.
