Mayweather v Pacquiao was the Biggest Letdown of the Century

By: Sam Neumann

One of the most anticipated sporting events of the century turned out to be one of the biggest flops in recent memory. Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao, “the boxing match of the century,” was a big waste of time and so was the $99.95 that they charged for pay-per view.

The hype surrounding the fight was bigger than the actual fight. Sports fans waited for and anticipated this fight to happen for six years. The fight went all 12 rounds and predictably ended by a judge’s decision, with Mayweather just barely winning.

It is pathetic that Mayweather barely won, as in his last 47 fights, he was 47-0. Pacquiao was an average 3-2 in his last five fights. It was reported that Pacquiao tore his rotator cuff in his right shoulder, in training for this fight. The fact that this fight was even close is laughable on Mayweather’s end. Mayweather should have blown Pacquiao out of the water, but that’s not what he was there to do. Mayweather was there to survive the 12 rounds and pick up his $180 million paycheck. Pacquiao was there as the underdog to take out the champ.

Never again will something of this magnitude happen. The fans will not fall for it, they were tricked into paying $99.95 to see two guys in their older 30s grab each other for 12 rounds. That will not happen again, as hardly anyone will pay to see another match between the two. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao killed what was left of boxing. Boxing is now a dead sport.
