Restaurant Review: Sky Asian Bistro Offers Excellent Asian Fusion Experience

By: Anisha Saddy

Sky Asian Bistro is a relatively new restaurant located in Pineville that serves sushi along with authentic Asian cuisine. Because it is located behind the Vitamin Shoppe and is farther down from the Carolina Place mall, it may be a bit difficult to spot immediately. However, the prices of the dishes at Sky generally range under $15, and with the many delicious options to choose from, it is not to be missed.

Upon entering the restaurant with four of my friends, I was quite pleased with only a twenty minute wait, despite the fact that we had not made a reservation for that Friday night. The atmosphere at Sky is aesthetically pleasing, with chandeliers, a plethora of modern furniture and paintings, and vibrant music. We found service to be a bit on the slower side, but our meal definitely made up for it.

Our group started by ordering the lettuce wraps and we only needed to order two for the table of five. These lettuce wraps, filled with water chestnuts, tofu, celery and chicken, were absolutely delicious. Generally, the addition of shrimp to this dish would add 50 cents, but the chicken, which we chose, made the dish $7.00. Although we found this to be a bit expensive, the wraps were light and a great start to the meal.

After about a twenty minute wait, the first of the three dishes we shared was the pad thai, priced at $11.00. These noodles were sautéed with chicken, shrimp, egg and onions, and were garnished with a savory peanut sauce. Rice must be ordered separately at a charge of $1.00 per bowl for this entrée. This is definitely a choice I recommend for anybody who is a fan of Thai food and is absolutely something I’ll order when I visit next. We found the vegetable lo mein the least flavorful of all the dishes, but it’s not a bad option at $8.50. The best entree of the night was undoubtedly the chicken and broccoli, with rice requested separately. The $9.00 Cajun chicken was loaded with flavor, and would be a great addition to any lo mein or rice meal.

Despite the fact that we didn’t even order one meal per person, we all ended up taking some food home. Sky’s portions are quite large, so don’t worry about having to leave on an empty stomach! Vegetarian readers. be sure to ask the waiter about the plentiful meatless options.
