It’s a known fact: high schoolers are broke but are always looking to have fun. Even if you have a job, you are probably saving up for college and could always save a couple of bucks. Therefore, if you want to go on a fun date but don’t want to spend a fortune and are tired of the same dinner-movie dates, check out these fun yet cheap date ideas.
Go Rollerskating. If you and your “bae” are looking for excitement, Kate Skate (located in Rock Hill and in Indian Trail) will be the best date you’ve had in a while. You can skate together for only $6 per person (plus a rental fee for skates if you don’t own your own pair) and can grab a bite to eat in their cafe when you get hungry for only a couple of bucks.
Watch Netflix. Netflix seems like a clichė, boring date, but most people forget that watching a movie at home and cuddling can be one of the most relaxing dates to plan. Watching movies together is perfect for chilling out after a long day of school. Plus it’s a free date (if you are a subscriber)!
Play Monopoly. If you get tired of watching Netflix with your boyfriend/girlfriend, take a break with a classic board game, such as Monopoly. This brings out the best in people and you can see how strategic your beau is. It’s another free date idea, so you get to have fun for no cost at all. (Warning: If your boyfriend or girlfriend is really competitive, and you win, it may cost you after all.)
Take a hike. A fun date for adventurous couples is going on a (free) hike in the mountains. Crowders Mountain is only a short drive away and the views are definitely worth the hike!
Volunteer together. Volunteering is great for the community, great for your relationship and great for your wallet! Many organizations, such as the Humane Society and Loaves and Fishes, are always looking for volunteers and volunteer work brings out the best of your boyfriend or girlfriend.
Explore downtown. Uptown Charlotte has many cheap museums and good food that you and your love can explore for a day. You can walk around and spend some good quality time with each other. You never know if you’ll discover your new favourite restaurant or boutique! Bring a camera along to capture your sights.
Bake together. Everyone loves food, so this date is great for everyone! You can search for a recipe that you and your boyfriend or girlfriend will enjoy eating and you can bake it for a fun and delicious time together.
Visit the zoo. The North Carolina Zoo, located in Asheboro, is the perfect place to visit with your boyfriend/girlfriend. A day pass is only $12, and you get to see so many cute animals.
Paint pottery. Dish it Out, located in Stonecrest, is a great way to spend time with your significant other. You can pick out a piece of pottery for a small price and paint it together for only $12 per hour. The best part is you’ll walk away with something to remind you of your quality time spent together.
Go to an AK sports game. If you love sports but don’t want to spend a fortune on going to a professional game, the AK sports teams could always use extra support. Most games are $6 and you get to cheer on your fellow athletes while maybe even running into some friends along the way!
