Plenty of decent careers in the modern world require dedication, a decent work ethic and an undergraduate degree. Hard work in high school and college can potentially open up these opportunities. Here are some careers in today’s marketplace that offer the highest salaries, nationally.


Medical Field: Anesthesiologist (Mean Salary in the US: $235,070 annually) These professionals take the responsibility of monitoring patients that undergo the process of a surgery throughout the duration of the procedure. By administering anesthesia to the patients, they play a critical role in making sure that minimal pain is felt and critical life functions are protected at the same time. Additionally, these highly skilled physicians are responsible for developing a specific anesthesia plan for a patient based on the status of his health, and can also assist in pain management and blood transfusion therapy.

Educational Requirements: Four year undergraduate degree (with pre-med requirements). Therefore, if one is interested in pursuing this career, a major pertaining to the medical field would be necessary. Additionally, four years in medical school and four years of residency in the field of anesthesiology are required.


Business Field: Chief Executive Officer (Mean Salary in the US: $178,400 annually) No surprise. CEO’s, or chief executive officers, are key in managing large corporations that are generated for profit. Additionally, the CEO must develop many strategies the company can utilize to make it successful and manage all aspects, such as resources, that the corporation has. This job requires somebody with excellent communicative and decision-making skills.

Educational Requirements: The common credentials that are necessary for a CEO position include a bachelor’s degree that is in the same field as the corporation is. Besides years of successful management experience, leadership, management, and communicative skills are a must.


Engineering Field: Petroleum Engineer (Mean Salary in the US: $149,180 annually) These individuals try to develop different technologies in order to recover oil and hydrocarbons from tar sands, oil shale and gas fields. In order to do this, they have to maintain and manage various types of oil field equipment and design it for maximum oil and gas extraction. This can be a challenge, so petroleum engineers must use computer-controlled drilling and fracturing to accomplish this task.

Educational Requirements: Petroleum engineers have to have a degree in some type of engineering to obtain this career. This could include petroleum engineering itself, or something like mechanical or chemical engineering. Additionally, work experience as a student is looked highly upon by employers.


Communications Field: Computer and Information Systems Managers (IT Managers) (Mean Salary in the US: $132,570 annually) IT managers are responsible for all computer related programs in a corporation or organization. They help business owners make crucial decisions based on their knowledge of the best computer technology to purchase and help come up with ideas for new products in the market as well. By including the proper computer hardware into a business’ system, an IT can also assist with any new software updates and network security needs.

Educational Requirements: A bachelor’s degree, along with at least five years of experience in a work related occupation, would be necessary for this career.
